Her first biography, Pastor Doug: The Story of an Aboriginal Leader, was published in 1965.

In 1979, The Boy from Cumeroogunga was written for children. Cumeroogunga was the government Aboriginal station in New South Wales where the boy, Doug Nicholls, was born.

In his early days, Doug Nicholls was a successful Australian Rules League footballer, and he went on to be appointed as the Governor of South Australia in 1976. He was also created a Knight-Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1972.
